Spend time together this Mother’s Day! Paint a sunflower ceramic piece side by side in a relaxed, creative pop-up session. Celebrate Mother’s Day with something a little more meaningful. Skip the usual flowers — paint one that lasts together.
Create a bespoke Boro (Japanese patchwork) Place Mat using Sashiko (straight stitch embroidery) and learn all about visible mending. Choose your background colour (beige, blue or black linen, subject to availability), followed by embellishing patches (made up from my collection of vintage and new Japanese cotton, silk and linen fabrics) plus maximum four different colours embroidery threads and start stitching away. Learn about the ancient Japanese technique of Sashiko while being aware of principles such as up-cycling, respect for the discarded and slow stitching process to practice mindfulness and relaxation.

Join us for a relaxed and inspiring creative session where we explore the beauty of botanicals through mixed media. In this workshop, you’ll create two to three unique artworks using watercolour, paper collage, and ink. Create your own quirky pots and vessels, add hand-drawn or stamped botanicals, as you play with materials and explore your creativity.
Discover the beauty of one of the world's oldest painting media with artist Dr Bill Platz! Learn how to create, from scratch, one of the oldest, most beautiful and permanent paints — egg tempera — with Dr Bill Platz. Using simple ingredients including eggs, water and natural pigments, you will make your own drawing materials and learn techniques for using them. You will then have the opportunity to experiment with this media while drawing from a posing, clothed model. The workshop will include a 30 minute lunch break to bring or grab a meal and socialise with the other attendees. A fridge is available for use. This workshop is not suitable for anyone with an egg allergy.
An introduction to landscape - suitable for any skill level. Working from a curated range of reference material and with guided exercises and demonstrations, you’ll experiment with painting and drawing techniques and processes to create personal impressions of landscape that feel both immediate and considered. Emphasis is placed on process over polish, encouraging a visual language that reflects your own way of seeing, and prepares you to document your own personal encounters with landscape. Suitable for all levels. Tea, coffee and snacks provided, participants to bring their own lunch. All participants will receive a travel size watercolour sketchbook, a waterbrush and a small watercolour palette with enough paint to complete any exercises started in the studio.

In this hands on workshop, you will draw on the symbolism of tarot archetypes – beginnings, thresholds, loss, and renewal, to create your own symbolic artworks that capture your relationship with life, death and the in-between. Across two workshops you will be guided through the process of creating digital designs through to a printed outcome that can adorn your home, capturing those key moments of your life story. This workshop takes place over two days, Saturday 5 May and Saturday 23 May. You are expected to attend both sessions, as they build upon each other.

Sit in amongst the beautiful Threads exhibition and enjoy being treated to a fully catered afternoon tea and tutored Still Life Sketching Session. All materials will be supplied and your tutor for this session will be the Curator of the Threads exhibition, Leah Gordon. Price also includes a variety of savoury and sweet treats and bottomless tea and coffee. No drawing experience necessary. Just come and let us show you some simple ways of looking and sketching and have a delightful afternoon out in the Gallery in Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.
