Compost is essential for organic growing systems. It introduces microorganisms that increase soil fertility, plant health and through a range of mechanisms, develops resilience to pests and disease. It adds organic matter critical for supporting the micro ecology while stabilising the environment within the soil with respect to pH, moisture and nutrients. In this practical workshop we will make several batches of compost, learn about household and farm scale composting systems, prepare compost extracts, demonstrate the value of microscopic assessment of the quality of our applications and spray the microbes. The course is suitable for those with some experience composting who wish to develop their skills in this art and science and apply it to their productive garden or regenerative farm. Our venue is a regenerative 200 Ha sheep farm located in Perth Hills. Here we can demonstrate small and farm scale examples of employing microbial preparations for improving soil/growth in intensive vegetable and broad scale pasture settings. Join us for a discussion on one of the most pressing topics facing the industry today. Australian agricultural supply chains have been subjected to serious disruptions because of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and the erratic availability of the Strait of Hormuz as a major shipping lane. This panel discussion will provide an update on the current fuel landscape and WA business innovations that are supporting a more resilient fuel future for WA. The conversation will also highlight key lessons from the current environment and identify practical opportunities for solutions that integrate with existing operating systems.
