Corals' Last Stand follows the voyage of a team bringing worldwide attention to the impact that drilling will have on this special place. Perched on the edge of the continental shelf, 300km from the Australian mainland lies Scott Reef. This ancient coral atoll, isolated for millions of years from other reef systems and mainland influences, has developed its own sub populations of unique species. Formed more than 15 million years ago Scott Reef is home to more than 1200 species including endangered sea snakes, green turtles and spectacular corals. But Scott Reef is under threat from global corporation Woodside. Corals' Last Stand follows the voyage of a team of prominent Australians including author Tim Winton and musician John Butler as they travel to the reef to bring worldwide attention to the impact that drilling will have on this special place. This half hour documentary asks whether Australia can really afford to exploit this gas reserve in a time of growing community concern at rising global temperatures. And if it does will Scott Reef and the life it supports be the collateral damage of that decision? The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with lead campaigners and FORE Australia who will be running a skills building session to support and empower climate action. This event is being presented in partnership with Yarra Libraries and Environmental Films Australia as part of the Yarra Environmental Film Festival.

Join us on the banks of the Birrarung for a youth-led gathering focused on the future of our river. The Birrarung Big Splash brings together young people, community members, and decision makers to reflect on the river’s cultural, ecological and community significance, aiming to build momentum towards a healthy, swimmable future. This event builds on the energy and recommendations of the 2025 Birrarung Floating Youth Summit, where young people came together on the river to imagine what a restored, swimmable Birrarung could look like. The morning will open with a keynote conversation exploring the realities of hotter summers and the importance of safe, accessible places for communities to cool down. Elected representatives will be invited to attend and engage in discussion around what tangible action is needed to improve water quality and river health. Following this, attendees will be able to take part in a choice of guided activations along the river. These experiences will offer different ways to connect with and explore the river, centring respect for the Birrarung as a living entity.
