My name is Gidget and I’m having a fundraiser on the 22nd of March to raise money for my gender affirming top surgery that I am planning on undergoing in the beginning of 2027. Many trans people including myself aren’t able to receive Medicare or healthcare to cover the expensive costs to undergo this surgery, therefore, we turn to the community to show up and help raise money. We have created our own sort of healthcare system through art, music, food, trades, and other commodities. It is my aim to hold an event where I can host a variety of musicians, serve food, sell handmade merchandise, and raffle prizes donated from many inner west artists and local businesses. My team and I will be reaching out to local breweries and wineries to bring them on board to provide beverages on the day. We will be cooking up a humble sausage sizzle on the day for food to sell, providing the bbq cooking facilities ourselves. We are planning for the event to be held on the 22nd of March starting at 3pm and ending at 9pm. I am hoping for a wholesome day full of love, art, and connection. The patrons will include family, friends, and creatives from all over Sydney who have the common goal of helping uplift and aid in the liberation of trans people coming home to their bodies. I hope that through my own fundraising I can then do the same for others after me. xox Gidget Newman
