Queensland-based artist Carlos Barrios returns to Mitchell Fine Art with his solo exhibition, 'Heart Songs', showing 10 Feb - 7 Mar. Expressed as his 'heart’s songs', the works characterise Barrios’ creative practice through invocations of love, soulfulness and melancholy. Raised in El Salvador, Central America and the son of an archaeologist, Barrios was introduced to the art and artefacts of ancient cultures at a young age. This vital and transportive force felt when observing these artefacts and sites informs Barrios’ life-affirming outlooks, which are held strong despite witnessing atrocities during the decade-long Salvadorian civil war. Creating art is a reflexive and indispensable element of living itself for Barrios. Through a heartfelt display, Barrios hopes to share this transformative capacity of art and life.
