Learn the secrets of making Detroit-style pizza from scratch with a hands-on workshop that will have you craving more! Get ready to dive into the magic of Detroit-style pizza in this hands-on workshop with Marianna Stepniewski of Cake It Nice. Known for its thick, airy crust and irresistibly crispy, caramelized edges, this beloved pizza style is all about technique—and Marianna will walk you through every step. Guests will learn how to mix and handle Detroit-style dough, understand fermentation basics, and master the key methods for achieving that signature golden crunch around the edges. Along the way, we’ll talk pans, cheese placement, baking temperatures, and the small details that make a big difference. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or a curious pizza lover, this workshop is equal parts practical and fun—designed to give you the confidence to recreate Detroit-style pizza at home, crispy edges and all.
Come get hands-on experience with our expert baker and leave with all the tricks of the trade! Love our sourdough? Have you tried making it at home but couldn’t quite get the hang of it? This is your chance to finally learn how to make and maintain a starter, mix a loaf of bread by hand, and bake the perfect loaf at home. You will learn about baker's ratios, how to adjust recipes, and how time and temperature play a role in the outcome of your bake to help you make the perfect loaf, everytime! Students will come away from the class with their own sourdough starter, an unbaked loaf of bread to bake at home, a baked demi loaf to enjoy later in the week, and an instructional pamphlet and recipes to keep you inspired.
Identify spring wild greens, learn to cook with them, and take some home to use in your own kitchen! Join herbalist and forager Natalie Hammerquist for a hands-on spring greens experience at Carnation Farms, held in conjunction with the Carnation Farms Spring Market. We’ll begin in the vegetable fields, where you’ll learn to identify, harvest, and work with seasonal greens. Together we’ll harvest greens for the group, and participants will also be able to gather some to take home. After harvesting, we’ll move into the classroom to cook and cook up two simple, nourishing preparations that highlight spring greens: Wild Green Pesto and Ripassata. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of spring greens, printed recipes, fresh greens to take home, and practical inspiration for using greens simply and deliciously. After class, participants are welcome to explore the Carnation Farms Spring Market at their leisure. No prior experience necessary — just curiosity and a love of good food.
