Seasoned in the ways of side (she’s been drumming for Iron and Wine since 2017, including recording drums on his new single “In Your Ocean” ), Beth Goodfellow has recently been percolating her solo percussion project in the parch of Tucson, AZ. Immersed in that creative desert community, Goodfellow is articulating a fresh, surreal, and finely drawn sound that reflects her formative roots in traditional jazz and classical percussion, while simultaneously tossing those rules aside in favor of adventurous texture, tone, and composition. Out where the mirages dance it’s easy to dream that world domination by mallet instruments is as tangible as that pool of cool sparkling water on the horizon … and she’s hauling this vision back to LA on April 17th. Join her at Healing Force of the Universe for an evening of marimba loops, vibraphone, drum set and whatever else fits in the car. Accompanied by Nadav Peled on guitar and Jonathan Flaugher on bass. (Disclaimation: this is not a rehearsal for a recording session). Doors at 8 PM. $15 adv (+DICE fees)/$18 at the door. $0 +1 for Patron members, $7.50 for Sponsor members, $11.25 for Initiate members, www.healingforcerecords.com/memberships

Community and Continuity: Altadena music then and now a conversation with jazz legend Bobby Bradford

Lila Forde, Alycia Lang, Karli Fairbanks, and Joshua Thomas each bring distinct yet deeply personal approaches to songwriting, united by a shared commitment to authenticity and craft. Forde’s “Americana soul” blends jazz, R&B, and folk into a warm, genre-fluid sound, culminating in her debut *VESSEL*, a record rooted in intuition, vulnerability, and self-trust. Lang similarly embraces fluidity, with *Speak The Word To Hear The Sound* moving from sharp, tongue-in-cheek rock to reflective folk, capturing life’s contradictions through spontaneity and emotional honesty. Fairbanks, a multi-instrumentalist and longtime Pacific Northwest fixture, represents a quieter devotion - her decades-long career defined not by spotlight but by a steadfast commitment to creative expression for its own sake. Thomas’s journey circles back to music after stepping away in 2020, ultimately leading to his debut The Wings Outside, a deeply introspective album shaped by chance, collaboration, and renewed purpose. The four come together on Wednesday, April 29 at Healing Force of the Universe for a songwriter-y sorta night. Come hang. Doors at 8 PM. $15 adv (+DICE fees)/$18 door $0 +1 for Patron members, $7.50 for Sponsor members, $11.25 for Initiate members, www.healingforcerecords.com/memberships
