For some 2,500 years, the original teachings of the Buddha were overlaid with centuries of later tradition and interpretation. These early Buddhist teachings stand in stark contrast not only to the modern mindfulness movement, but even to much of the modern presentation of Buddhism all over the world. Thanks to new research and discoveries, we know now more than ever what the historical Buddha might have taught. These insights are not just for scholars - they offer a radical, practical framework to live a truly easeful life. Even in the midst of chaos. The night will be split up into three parts: 1. History & Philosophy of Early Indian Buddhism. 2. The Buddha's system for true peace. 3. A lightly guided (and optional) meditation session. This lecture is designed for those with little to no experience with Buddhism; though more experienced practitioners may still gain fresh insights.
