Learn to share your ideas and produce your own zines with exhibiting artist Darren Bryant. Zines are a form of independent media, originating from the basic need to develop quick, affordable and alternative forms of communication and information-sharing. They are created and distributed by the creator (or creators), driven by passion rather than profit, and produced cheaply. They can be photocopied or printed; small or large; typed or hand-drawn; and on any subject that the creator cares about. Zines also offer a straightforward, quick, and accessible way to create and share artist’s work, as well as to plan or draft a mock-up for a more complex artist’s book. In this workshop, participants will be guided through the steps to create and produce their own zine to share stories, ideas and/or artworks that are important to them.

This 4-day workshop series led by local ceramicist Jacqui Sosnowski of SOSCERAMICS is designed for those new to the wheel who wish to learn the basics of throwing clay, and how to work independently in a communal studio. Participants will be guided through the process of throwing basic cylinders like cups and mugs, and more open forms such as bowls. General safety processes will be covered, as well as an overview of tools, basic techniques, and how to work safely in a studio environment. Following the completion of this workshop, participants will be eligible to apply for Ignite Ceramics studio membership, and book independent sessions on the wheel. Materials, tools, and a bisque firing of selected work produced during the series are included. Places are limited, with just six spots available.
