Explore how food, farming, and sustainability are deeply intertwined — connecting the landscapes of Sicily and Vermont. Participants will meet and interact with Shelburne Farms catering chef and farmers, Vermont producers, and those engaged in the Vermont food system throughout the experiential program. Our time together will include a visit to our Market Garden greenhouses to harvest early season ingredients with our farmers while learning about the importance of soil and regenerative farming practices. We will walk the land to wildcraft spring nettles and learn the importance of pasture raised livestock with Shelburne Farms dairy & livestock manager. We will gather in the kitchen with Fabrizia and Shelburne Farms catering chef Jackie Major to learn simple techniques to bring the land to life and share meals together! Whether you are a passionate home cook, an admirer of the foodways of Italy and Vermont, or simply curious about how food traditions express place and identity, this program offers a welcoming opportunity to learn, taste, and connect.
Whether you’re a newbie or a mushroom maestro, come step into our madcap world of gourmet mushroom cultivation. This workshop is open to all skill levels and will walk you through the basics of lab work, grain preparation, incubation, substrate creation, and fruiting techniques. Learn everything you need to grow gourmet mushrooms like a pro.
A brief introduction to herbal syrups and the art of herbal mocktail blending followed by a sampling of locally crafted herbal mocktails. Spoonful Herbals community herbalist and bartender Jackie Bishop will provide delicious herbal “mocktails” featuring locally grown or wild-crafted medicinal plants, sparkling water, local honey, apple cider vinegar and edible flowers. There will be a brief introduction to herbal syrup and shrub making, and the art and science of herbal mocktail blending for flavor and healing benefits.
