In this workshop, join print maker Orlando Corona for a deep dive into the world of monotype print making. This is a 5-day workshop, it will take place on June 22 through 26 from 6pm to 9pm at the LMU Center for the Arts in Cumberland Gap, TN. All supplies and needed materials are provided.
In this 5-day workshop, with The Empirical Herbalist you will learn the medicine and nutrition behind culinary herbs. Participants will learn about herbs that are easily grown or purchased AND how to incorporate them into your favorite staples, as well as how to branch out with fun and yummy new recipes. Participants will be making herbal blends, creating and tasting herbal dishes and taking home lots of recipes and notes!
In this 2-day workshop, join musician Sarah Kate Morgan and learn the basics of playing the Mountain Dulcimer. The mountain dulcimer is a great first instrument for folks who are interested in playing traditional Appalachian music! In this workshop you will start from scratch; no prior music experience needed. You can expect to leave this class with all the fundamental skills you'll need to get started on your dulcimer journey. We'll cover holding, strumming, fretting, tuning, the dulcimer as well as lots of traditional music from the Southern Appalachian Mountains as well as a few folk songs from around the world.
In this workshop, join LMU alumni and elementary art teacher Belle Blake, for this 5-day workshop on how to make your own pottery. This is a 5-day workshop, it will take place on June 1 through 5 from 1pm to 4pm at the LMU Center for the Arts in Cumberland Gap, TN. All supplies and needed materials are provided. There is an additional glazing day for this event on June 24 from 1pm to 4pm, so participants can paint their pottery. This workshop is messy, so make sure participants come in clothes they can get dirty in. This workshop is for those ages 11 to 13. Scholarships are available. In this workshop, join local artist Manderley Swain for a 5-day deep dive into the world of watercolor. Some experience in watercolor painting is required. Participants will be exploring more complex watercolor techniques. They will review the basics of watercolor painting, then build on those skills to help develop your own style, expand on color theory, and dabble in abstract painting. Join us and expand your watercolor painting knowledge.
In this workshop, join local artist and teacher Maria Trigo of Rock Creek Pottery, for this 5-day workshop on how to make your own pottery. Participants will learn the basics of using the pottery wheel and create ceramics of their own. This workshop is messy, so make sure participants come in clothes they can get dirty. This workshop will take place on June 15th through the 19th from 6pm to 9pm each day. There is a glazing day on July 2nd from 6pm to 9pm for participants to 'paint' their pieces. In this workshop, join quilter Katrina Jolley for this 5-day workshop on making a rail fence quilt. This is a 5-day workshop, it will take place on June 22 through 26 from 6pm to 9pm at the LMU Center for the Arts in Cumberland Gap, TN. Sewing machines and all other needed workshop supplies are provided, but please indicate if you are bringing your own sewing machine on the order form. This workshop is for those ages 18 and up. Join local artist Emily Taylor for a 5-day exploration into the world of acrylic painting. Participants will take a broad approach to exploring painting, the many different qualities of paint and some different approaches to painting. They will work with various elements of painting and composition such as color, texture, shape, and value, and combine those elements to create compositions. This will lead to a longer composition of number of smaller ones (student choice) in the last couple of days of the class. They will learn from each other and from the process, looking at each other’s studies and viewing paintings from different historical and contemporary practices - and have fun getting involved in the large world of paintings.
