Join us for a talk with Billy Cardine about World Music through an Appalachian perspective. Cardine’s artistic reach is as expansive as his imagination. He has appeared on some of the world’s most esteemed stages—including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Ryman Auditorium—and at major festivals such as Bonnaroo, Merlefest, and RockyGrass. His international collaborations have taken him to India, Japan, Europe, and Canada, with notable partnerships that include John Paul Jones, Edgar Meyer, and dobro legend Jerry Douglas, who praised him as one of the finest examples of what the instrument can be today. Beyond performance, Cardine has built a distinguished career as a producer, engineer, and educator. His recordings have earned national and international accolades, and his compositions have been featured by the History Channel, BBC World, and PBS. As a teacher, he is known for illuminating complex musical ideas with clarity and warmth. His innovative spirit even led Moog Music to enlist him in the development of their first electric slide guitar. Join us for an insightful afternoon as Billy Cardine delves into the convergence of world music traditions and Appalachian sensibilities—sharing stories, demonstrations, and the creative philosophies that have shaped his genre-defying career.
