Monochrome images are timeless. Learn how to evoke the feelings of past photography masters and harness your creativity by capturing and processing stunning monochrome images. This two-part workshop will take you on a journey where you will start by learning how to “see” what scenes are especially suited to monochrome images. We will start by reviewing different examples of varying contrast, high and low key and textured photographs as an orientation to monochrome imagery. We will then dive into the technical side and learn the visual “zone system” created by Ansel Adams. Armed with this understanding we will go out in the field together and create a variety of raw images you believe will be well suited for monochrome. Then you will get a chance to practice these skills on your own for several weeks. The second part of the workshop will be online and will focus on processing your raw files into monochrome images. Each participant will get an opportunity to co-process a file of their choosing with the instructor in a group setting. In this session you will learn how to convert your raw image into monochrome using Lightroom Classic. You will learn how to process the image using basic tone sliders, the tone curve, explore your creative side with presets and learn how to create a unique colored monochrome image using Photoshop.
