There is a lot of opportunity to extend the growing season earlier into March and April, as well as later into November and December. Join us at the Garden Resources Center as we demonstrate tools and equipment that the GRC carries that can help you extend your growing season into more the year.
Allegheny County Conservation District will host a free Soil Lead Screening for county residents.
Volunteer Day At Shiloh. Join us at Shiloh Farm for an early Saturday morning volunteering project the end of May-September. Help out with the farm tasks, take a tour with our staff.
Come discover the wonderful birds in our parks. Bring your binoculars and come see what birds we can find in Schenley Park. We will be meeting at Bartlett shelter in Schenley Park. Whether you are an avid birder or a beginner join us for a stroll through the park!
Join Pittsburgh Park Rangers in learning how to identify trees in Southside Park! Join Pittsburgh Park Rangers on a walk around Southside Park as we learn the basics of tree identification. We'll take the time to focus on their unique features that differentiate them from one another. There will be a lot of stopping and talking, so we won’t be getting far in this hour and a half hike, but we can still expect some walking and elevation changes. Please dress for the weather, wear proper footwear, and stay hydrated.
Join your Pittsburgh Park Rangers for a guided tree identification walk in Mellon Park! Enjoy a ranger-led walk in Mellon Park as we learn how to identify the trees that make up our landscape. Previously the estate of Richard Beatty and Jennie King Mellon, Mellon Park became Pittsburgh's first certified arboretum in 2020! We will meet by the front gates on Fifth Avenue and make our way around the park, stopping intermittently to discuss the trees along our path and how we can correctly identify them. Come enjoy the outdoors and learn something new with your Pittsburgh Park Rangers!
