Multidisciplinary panel on preventing human trafficking during large-scale events and population surges in Pittsburgh. Building on the powerful dialogue from our previous panel at Carlow University, this next conversation moves from awareness to proactive preparation. As Pittsburgh prepares to host major events and experience increased tourism and population surges, prevention must be intentional and coordinated. Join us for a multidisciplinary panel discussion featuring leaders from law enforcement, advocacy, public safety, and community sectors as we examine: How large-scale events can increase vulnerabilities for exploitation, What coordinated response looks like in practice, How public safety, service providers, and community institutions work together, The role businesses and residents play in prevention. This discussion continues our commitment to moving beyond awareness toward practical, citywide readiness.
Join us for a Mother’s Day Brunch at Eden’s Farm. Celebrate love while supporting survivors of human trafficking. Join Eden’s Farm on May 9th from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM for a Mother’s Day Brunch shaped by presence, gratitude, and intention. This is a morning set aside for mothers, daughters, chosen family, and all those who carry the quiet work of nurturing—to sit together, to be seen, and to share space without rush. At Eden’s Farm, we believe care is built in moments like these: around a table, through conversation, and in the act of showing up for one another. This brunch is an invitation to honor the relationships that have sustained us, while also extending that care outward. During the gathering, there will be a brief reflection on the impact of Eden’s Farm’s survivor-centered work and how collective support helps create safety, dignity, and pathways toward long-term healing for survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. All proceeds from this event directly support Eden’s Farm programs and the survivors they serve—helping transform shared moments into lasting change. Come for the meal. Stay for the meaning. Leave knowing your presence helped make room for hope.

We are honored to launch local author Jason Irwin's debut memoir, "These Fragments I Have Shored" with Laurel Szymkowiak and Kurt Garrison. At White Whale, it is our joy and privilege to celebrate local writers. We are honored to celebrate Pittsburgh poet Jason Irwin for the launch of his debut memoir, These Fragments I Have Shored. Irwin will be joined by local writers Laurel Szymkowiak and Kurt Garrison. When Jason Irwin visits his mother two days before Christmas, he finds her in bed, racked with pain. Later that night, at the ER the doctor on duty delivers a diagnosis, neither Jason nor his mother are prepared for: terminal cancer. Not wanting to endure treatment that would only prolong her suffering, she insists on dying on her own terms, in her own apartment. Only after hospice is called, and her condition quickly worsens does his mother agree to move to a city three hours away and live with Jason and his partner. Jason’s growing independence, his moving away to attend graduate school to study poetry, coincides with his mother’s own health and financial decline, forever changing the dynamic of their relationship. Yet, through all their ups and downs, a mutual love of music, reading, and the quirky absurdities of life hold them together.
