Join us for “The Winthrop Women: Hannah Feake Bowne and Her Legendary Mother” Illustrated Talk at the historic Bowne House in Flushing, NY. Discover the colorful and astonishing life of John Bowne's mother-in-law, Elizabeth Fones-Winthrop-Feake-Hallett, who defied 17th-century gender roles and Puritan morality to forge a life on her own terms in the New World. The Bowne House Archives and research team will present our latest findings on her life, and the ways in which she shaped her daughter, Bowne House matriarch and pioneering Quaker preacher Hannah Feake Bowne. A question period will follow. In-person attendees may take a self-guided tour of the historic 1661 Bowne House following the talk.
