AI & Machine Learning Networking Night: Connecting Startups, Investors, Service Providers and Professionals.
Join the Cardozo Law Institute in Holocaust and Human Rights (CLIHHR) and CRIES for a discussion on AI. Communities, advocates, practitioners, and scholars have raised urgent concerns about the role of emerging technologies in reshaping these risk environments. Artificial intelligence is already being deployed in ways that intensify harm, with the incorporation of AI into surveillance systems and autonomous weapons further raising serious concerns, particularly where state adoption proceeds without transparency, accountability, or a clear understanding of cumulative societal impacts. Cardozo Law Institute in Holocaust and Human Rights CLIHHR and Coordinadora Regional de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales (CRIES) are holding a convening of experts to lead a conversation examining the question of AI technology and its impact on atrocity prevention, specifically. To expand beyond the risks, this initiative also seeks to articulate a cautious yet forward-looking, human-centered framework for engaging with AI in atrocity prevention. There may be real opportunities for this technology to be deployed as a tool or set of tools to help prevent large-scale human rights abuses, with its use tightly governed, context-specific, and subordinate to human judgment.
