Come help us celebrate our 10th year renewal
History and Hat Making for Derby Day. Once, everyone wore hats everywhere. In the 18th century making hats, or millinery, was one of the few jobs for a respectable woman who needed to provide for her family. In the late 18th and 19th century, the making of hats, and the supplies for hat making was a significant industry, employing hundreds of women in NYC and other centers of the garment industry. For those who couldn't afford to buy their own hat, women's magazines provided patterns and instructions for making your own, from the mid-18th century until as late as the 1960s. Join us as we explore the history of millinery in the United States, and then make our own creations for Derby Day. It's amazing what you can do with a couple of placemats, some feathers, flowers, and old jewelry and a glue gun. Workshop is limited to 8 participants. The cost is $45 dollars per person. All materials and tools are provided, but feel free to bring something special you might want to incorporate into your hat
Prepare for unforgettable VIP treatment with your ringside tickets, giving you an exclusive opportunity to mingle with the legendary Hulk Hogan's original Little Mania Wrestlers from MCW, as seen on Tru TV! Come join us for a laidback open mic at Art & Soul Rowan every last Sunday of the month! Poets, musicians and storytellers welcome! This will be a round robin style open mic, where creatives can share up to 10 minutes, and connect with each other on craft. For musicians, we encourage acoustic instruments. We have a small speaker amp that allows aux plug in if needed, but this is not a 'bar vibe' open mic, don't expect a stage or a sound board. Think of it as a get together in a living room. Art & Soul Rowan is an art gallery and collective in Salisbury NC. The open mic space is very chill with seating and dimmed lighting in an intimate setting. Plenty of free parking!
