Find the best education events and make the most of your time this month in Somerville. From music to technology and more, we have the biggest event range and best discovery experience, there's something for everyone.
What does the Torah have to say about slavery, restitution, and repairing historical wrongs? In this powerful session, we’ll explore how ancient Jewish texts confront the legacy of enslavement and offer a complicated and instructive framework for justice. What does the Torah's story about reparations say about the intransigence of injustice when a society is built around it. How does that relate to and instruct us about what to do today to tackle our own history of structural anti-Black racism?
Join Rabbi Darby, who was born profoundly Deaf, for an engaging class exploring Deafness in the Torah and the Jewish textual tradition, where ancient texts meet lived experience. Together we’ll examine how Deafness is understood, portrayed, and interpreted across biblical, rabbinic, and later Jewish sources including Rabbi Darby's own personal experiences. The class will invite thoughtful conversation about disability, language, access, and inclusion within Jewish tradition. Come ready to learn, ask questions, and discover new layers of meaning and experiences in our sacred texts. No prior knowledge of Deafness, American Sign Language or Jewish texts is needed for this class!
