Adventure Events in Syracuse

Have you ever stumbled across a patch of delicious-looking mushrooms and felt tempted to add them to your pizza? Although we often encounter wild plants and fungi on a regular basis, many of us do not posses the knowledge to safely use them for culinary or medicinal purposes. This can all change at the Spring Foraging event! Join the Lilly Center and guest speaker, Carrie Vrabel, a certified Wild Mushroom Identification Expert, as we explore the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area together. This hands-on event will include a search for edible plants and fungi, with an emphasis on early-season species. Participants will receive instructions on how to properly identify and forage for tender greens, shoots, and roots, while also learning how to tell the difference between non-edible, look-alike species. This is the perfect event for anyone interested in learning to rely more on the land and less on the nearest grocery store for their cooking needs! This spring, learn to collect and consume plants with confidence!
