City Voices presents a program of American choral music that spans eras and genres and reflects a nation shaped by movement, tension, and possibility. Spirituals such as “Elijah Rock” will stand alongside Ruth Crawford Seeger’s searching “Chant,” Scott Joplin’s “A Real Slow Drag,” and choral reimaginings of familiar texts and tunes, including “Nearer, My God, to Thee” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Contemporary reflections by Eric Whitacre and Ola Gjeilo will invite stillness and introspection. And folk songs will remind audiences that American music is lived, shared, and sung.
