The Spirax Sarco Steam Utilization course is intended to cover steam basics and efficient usage of steam as a cost effective conveyor of energy to space heating or process heating equipment. A thorough walkthrough of the entire steam system, including: generation, distribution, utilization, and recovery. Attendees view steam traps operating under varying system conditions in our live steam lab. A demonstration of a steam to hot water heat exchanger is shown to allow the viewing of both the efficient use of steam and removal of condensate from this typical process application. A brief introduction to condensate pumps is given covering electric and non-electric designs. Eight (8) Professional Development Hours (PDH) are given. This course is a strongly recommended pre-requisite for all other STM numbered courses.

The Spirax Sarco Steam System Design course is action packed with many participant exercises. It begins with the sizing of a complete steam distribution system for HVAC and process applications. This includes sizing of steam pipes, pressure reducing stations and control valves. Proper steam trap sizing and selection for various methods are practiced, as are methods to detect steam trap failure. Condensate removal and recovery are also discussed, as these play an important role in efficiently operating a plant. The participants work through exercises on sizing condensate return lines and flash lines. The concept of stall is discussed and practiced. Understand methods for sizing steam and condensate lines Demonstrate steam trap application, selection and sizing Understand stall and condensate removal Understand methods to select and size pumps Understand fundamentals of control valves (pressure reducing and temperature control) and sizing Eight (8) Professional Development Hours (PDH) are given STM100 is strongly recommended as a pre-requisite for this course
