Yet, after 2 decades of making music together in living rooms, listening rooms, clubs, theaters, and festival stages, The Steel Wheels are still growing, still pushing, still at it, and theyre marking the occasion with the release of their 9th studio album, The Steel Wheels. Following the release of Sideways in 2024, their 3rd record with producer Sam Kassirer at his Great North Sound Society studio in interior Maine, the band felt it was time for a change of scene. As the group began to select songs for a new album, they also had to find an answer to the question of where they would get down to the work of record-making. FITZGERALDS SIDEBAR Presents: HENRY CARPENDER QUINTETFREE SHOW! RESERVATION AVAILABLE! Henry Carpender is a trombonist, composer, and educator based in the city of Chicago. An artist who is equally informed by his classical training, love of Jazz, and childhood playing rock music (primarily with his father John Carpender), Henrys playing and writing is a charming blend of punchy, sensitive, quirky, and dripping with love for life and self expression. Henrys dedication to music making began at age 13 when he played his first gig with the much beloved local band Expo 76. Since then, through both his education and the beginning of his professional freelance career, Henry has been fortunate enough to share the stage with Dag Juhlin, Billy Harper, Robbie Fulks, Tanya Darby, Cathy Richardson, NRBQ and the Canadian Brass. Henry has also enjoyed a healthy start to a career as a private instructor and group music educator, running a small studio of dedicated middle and high schoolers across the Chicagoland area. When hes not playing or teaching, he can be found playing video games, cooking a new dish, or relaxing on Montrose beach.This show will be an opportunity to premiere new work, revisit some favorites, and share arrangements of some of Henrys favorite artists. In 2018, Michot founded Nouveau Electric Records, promoting experimental and traditional around Louisiana French. In early 2020 Louis was named Louisianian of the Year in 2020 along with his brother Andre. Louis began incorporating solar technology into his music operations in 2020, with a solar powered studio and a mobile solar music stage dubbed the Solar Roller This work also bled into doing hurricane relief work as noted in Rolling Stone (Can This Cajun-Punk Musician Protect His Culture From Climate Change?, September 16, 2021) while raising funds to procure solar generators and panels for residents of Terrebonne Parish affected by Hurricane Ida, as written about in New Yorker magazine (The Lost Bayou Ramblers Get Lit, January 3, 2022).
