Enjoy a morning in nature listening to and observing local and migrating birds in Ward 8's Shepherd Parkway with Maria-Elena Montero of the DC Bird Alliance and staff and board members of Ward 8 Woods. The event will happen rain or shine, and all ages are welcome. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing comfortable for walking on a variety of terrain types. Binoculars will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have them. After birding, you are welcome to join Ward 8 Wood's Washington Highland Community Clean-Up from 10:30 to 1. The meeting place for the cleanup is the same as for the bird walk.

Join us for the School Garden Partners ’25-’26 Coaching Sessions designed for educators and school staff. Learn best practices for planning, planting, and maintaining a thriving school garden. Connect with fellow educators, share ideas, and gather tools to grow a garden that engages students and supports your school community.
Join our 2026 CSA! Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a system that directly connects farmers and consumers. You can buy 'shares' of a farm's harvest in advance and then receive a portion of the crops when they are harvested. Each year we grow a diversity of vegetables - from asparagus, peaches, eggplant, figs, beans, okra, asian pears, to herbs, several varieties of local greens, and much more. To address the rising demand for fresh produce, we've teamed with other local producers to provide diverse offerings. Our sourcing strategy places a priority on bolstering predominantly local, women, and BIPOC farms and farmers.

As small and mid-sized cities face escalating climate shocks, how can they pursue system-level infrastructure resilience?
Join us to celebrate DC Climate Week with an interactive community walk to reimagine the future of the Shepherd Branch Trail. Explore the trail segment between G Street SE and Nicholson Street SE (approximately 1.3 miles, one way) and discuss opportunities to integrate green infrastructure and sustainable design. Share ideas for a climate-resilient trail that reflects community priorities.
