Explore the geologic diversity and ecological interactions of northwestern Joshua Tree National Park!
Learn about how historical homesteading in Joshua Tree National Park shaped the development of the park as we know it today at some of the most famous sites, from Ryan’s Ranch to Wall Street Mill. This class covers resource use and the legacy of mining, ranching, and other activities that can still be observed.
Experience the spectacular ecology of Joshua Tree National Park under the stars! This narrative hike covers the geology, plants, climate, and history of the park. The hike starts at golden hour and continues through sunset into the moonlight.
Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this friendly atmosphere encourages creativity and collaboration. Discover the beauty of photography in a supportive setting, and leave with fresh techniques and new friends. The workshop will cover shooting in manual mode, the exposure triangle, using the histogram to ensure optimum exposure, exposure bracketing, focus bracketing, panoramas, shooting in RAW, white balance and color temperature, understanding focus and depth of field, and composition techniques.
Step back in time and discover the prehistoric wonders of Joshua Tree National Park with vertebrate paleontologist Brittney Elizabeth Stoneburg. This immersive course explores the fascinating fossil record of the region, revealing the ancient landscapes that once supported colossal creatures like ground sloths, mammoths, and other Ice Age animals. Learn how scientists piece together the park’s paleontological history and what these discoveries reveal about long-term climate and ecosystem changes in the Mojave Desert. The program concludes with a guided hike, where participants will explore the park’s geology firsthand, connecting ancient fossils to the rocks and formations that preserve Joshua Tree’s deep past.
