This Level I Refresher course, instructed by Mathieu Brown, covers essential avalanche safety topics including backcountry checklist application, interpreting avalanche forecasts, snow metamorphism review, snow behavior and mechanics, stability tests, route planning, terrain recognition, human factors, communication, and rescue scenarios with transceiver practice. Attend the Avalanche Training Level I course hosted by Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center. This course may be canceled due to insufficient snow or inadequate enrollment. All students are required to have an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel. An analog or digital (phone app) inclinometer is also important.
