Explore the vibrant event scene and make the most of your time in Brighton. From comedy to music and more, we have the biggest event range and best discovery experience, there's something for everyone.

Not everyone pauses a ten-year teaching career to sing songs around the country, but that’s exactly what singer-songwriter, occasional digestive piano player and accidental Come Dine With Me co-star is doing. After a 12-year journey to re-record the album that started it all off in a student bedroom, Joshua Burnell is sharing those songs and his story on tour. His songs have been described as “extravagantly inventive” (The Guardian), like “vignettes that look to other stories, myths and fairytales” (Financial Times) and fit somewhere between alt-folk and retro-pop. Expect expressive piano, lush strings and immersive lyrics. Accompanied by his band, Joshua invites you to join him on his Misty Mountain Tour, named as a loving nod to the Tolkien-influenced songs on his new album, Lend An Ear \[Revisited\]. Having toured internationally and headlined festivals, Joshua is unearthing how these songs led him down the path he is on and how those songs can serve others. The music is eclectic and constantly keeps you guessing but is consistently grounded in emotive storytelling and genuine human connection. Joshua loves what he does and it is infectious; he left the stage with his band at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention to a standing ovation, received the thumbs up from Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2, landed on RnR’s ‘Best Albums of The Year’ and has sold out headline concerts both in his home town, York and London; “definitely a young artist worth watching.” (Morning Star)

Herman Dune, the most Californian of French songwriters and a defining figure of anti-folk, presents a musical journey through his tumultuous life. He will embark on a heroic solo tour across Europe and the UK. Support from Hayley Savage.

Humor can conceal and alleviate the pain of trauma, but no joke will erase it. Even Wu-Tang Clan told you that tears come after laughter. Relief comes only from opening every emotional and psychological wound. Open Mike Eagle spent the 2010s finding comedy in rap music and American nightmares. On albums like Brick Body Kids Still Daydream and Dark Comedy, he delivered hilarious socio-political insights via half-sung verses laid atop progressive production. Acclaim from publications like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and NPR coincided with headlining solo tours and top-billing at events like Adult Swim Festival. Between studio sessions, Eagle co-founded The New Negroes, a standup-meets-music variety show that explores perceptions of blackness. He and co-founder Baron Vaughn brought the show to Upright Citizens Brigade, Comedy Central, and venues around the U.S. Since founding his record label Auto Reverse Records, though, Eagle has scaled back the jokes. He’s finally unpacking his traumas and acknowledging their impact.
