Whittling is the art of removing wood with a knife to create 3D objects. These classes are beginner friendly to learn carving in a welcoming and calm environment. Classes cover Knife and carving techniques. Safety, Explanations of wood grains and types of wood. How to hand sand. Finishes. Closed in shoes and old clothing required. Everything else is provided. 18+. Leigh is a wood artist. Her work is a powerful reflection of the world around us while using salvaged wood, old roofing beams, firewood and fencing. She breathes new life into materials that have already lived many lifetimes. These materials once part of towering trees, then infrastructure are now a part of stunning sculptures. Each piece of wood she works with is shaped by time with weathering, cracks, knots and imperfections, these are not flaws but rather sources of inspiration. By designing her pieces around these features then hand carving and hand sanding each piece she brings out the raw beauty hidden in these features. She creates long sweeping curves that celebrate the natural world. Each piece she creates is unique and celebrates all that Australia is. Leigh has taught many people of all ages to Whittle and provides an all-inclusive, calm, highly informative but low-key and fun class environment. Small groups - 6 places only.
