During this fun and interactive session, participants will: Read to friendly shelter cats – help socialize cats while practicing reading skills in a calm environment. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the animal shelter – discover how the shelter cares for its animals and how we can all support responsible pet ownership. Make your own DIY cat toy – create an enrichment toy that will be donated to a shelter cat or taken home for a pet of your own. Ages 6-12. Free, bookings essential.

Join us at the library for a special visit from the Community Animal Shelter team as part of the Safe Cat Safe Wildlife initiative! This engaging, family-friendly session gives you the chance to learn directly from animal care experts about: Responsible cat ownership, How to keep cats safe while protecting local wildlife, How shelters care for animals and why enrichment matters. Shelter attendants will bring at least one friendly cat for everyone to meet, helping participants better understand feline behaviour and the importance of safe, enriched indoor environments.
