This zine making workshop will cover ideas beyond the traditional 8-page fold that's often taught at zine making workshops. We will go through a brief history of zines and have an opportunity to look through a large collection of different zines. This workshop is suitable for beginners. The workshop will guide you through a series of interesting folds with a single piece of paper (I-folds, T-folds, 14 page/accordions), as well as multi-page layouts that involve saddle stitching. You'll think about how your choice of fold can influence your creative process, and what limitations it can remove and create. Throughout the workshop, you'll also get information about how to distribute your finished zines, trading etiquette, and how to table at zine fairs.
Louise Bradley has been working with the Allport Collection as a conservation framer. What has she learnt? The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts is probably the best-kept secret in Hobart. It contains a collection of Australian national significance and requires constant maintenance so it can be enjoyed into the future. The Allport houses Tasmanian colonial paintings, photographs, rare books and manuscripts, as well as English and European decorative arts and furniture. A portion of the collection is always on display in period rooms and galleries in the museum. The product Louise used for the paintings is contentious in the museum industry. Louise will explain why she chose this for the Allport collection, as well as how the frames were modified. She will also discuss some of the artists whose work is held in the collection.
