Intermediate Native American Flute Workshop This workshop is for people who already have a Native American flute and want to take the next step. At a certain point, playing can start to feel repetitive or a bit limited. This session is about moving past that and finding more flow, variation, and depth in your playing. We’ll keep things simple and practical, focusing on how to play in a way that feels more natural and expressive. You’ll be guided through: playing with others and finding your place in the sound listening and responding, rather than repeating patterns creating more space, variation, and flow in your playing drone flutes and deeper flutes handcrafted High Spirits Double Nova flutes (made in Arizona) These flutes add a second drone note underneath what you play, creating a fuller, more grounded sound. You’ll have the chance to hear and try these during the session. A small number will also be available for purchase on the day. You’ll explore: Breath control, vibrato, and tone refinement Ornamentation and rhythmic variation Phrasing, tension and resolution Improvisational guidance and musical frameworks Creating melodies and simple song structures Playing with feeling, listening, and space Using the flute to support the nervous system Applying the flute in personal practice, musical expression, and in breathwork, yoga, and sound healing contexts Playing with others (drone and call & response) Playing with other instruments Through guided exercises and group playing, you’ll develop greater control, subtlety, and musical awareness. Dine in with us on May 7th to taste the politically driven anarcho power-pop of Indonesias SUKATANI (سكتاني), then smash your plates and slam your face into the revved up, raw and ready hardcore-punk fury of South Korea’s SLANT! (This is their only QLD appearances btw!) For your entree on the night, our chefs have a special reef n beef dish of VOIID and RAW IMPACT, representing the Gold Coast and Brisbane respectively. Groove to the gritty garage of the Goldy girls in Voiid after you’ve worked up an appetite slamming around the table to the old-school hardcore revival of Raw Impact! The dinner is beer and the show. The tickets are at the link. Let’s eat!

With a creek that borders where we’ll gather, and the warmth of the fires that we circle around, the time will be for connection with each other and that which breathes us. Having filled their cup at the Woodford Festival, Kooii will share the next phase of their music, further deepening their character into a sound that rides on a wealth of rhythm—songs seeded by singer-trumpeter Peter Hunt and given life by all the members, seeking and finding belonging in the heart-opening of music. The concert shall also feature Juman and the Riddum Squad as well as The Seeding; Juman, with her heart-open voice sailing through the many fields of her musical belonging, from RnB to Arabic and The Seeding, carrying the inspired vision and imaginings in song of keyboardist Conor Alexander and singer and lyricist Mia Bloom. Guests are welcome to camp on the night of the concert (Saturday 9th May), with the option of arriving early and staying on Friday 8th, and/or staying Sunday 10th as well. There will be several options for dinner and snacks available through the Chai n Vibes trailer, a food truck, and the camp kitchen.
