An evening of storytelling, banter, and romance with two exciting new voices in Australian romantic fiction. Join debut Aussie romance authors, Bridie Blake and Olivia Tolich, at Nowra Library for an engaging conversation on modern romance! Together, our authors will chat about their writing journeys through to publication, the value of the romance genre and its evolving cultural influence, and answer any audience questions in a Q&A at the end of the panel. This event promises to be a fun night celebrating reading and writing the stories we tell about love.
Join for 8-weeks or drop in weekly for a varied program that will support you to develop new techniques. Every Wednesday, our artist-educators will guide you in drawing activities at either the Gallery, courtyard, forecourt or studio. Each week will be different, a fantastic way to build your skill set. We use different materials - mixed media, pencil, charcoal, oil pastels, and ink. We also like variety and together we are interested in creating a space that is equally invested in art-making, as it is in relationships. Join for all 8-weeks or drop in on a casual basis. Program starts Wednesday 6 May, and runs to 24 June, 10:30am - 12pm. Cost: $15 per week

Associate Professor Peter Edwell of Macquarie University discusses his book, The Case that Stopped a Nation. When William Dobell’s portrait of fellow-artist and close friend, Joshua Smith, was awarded the Archibald Prize in January 1944 it immediately drew praise and derision from a range of quarters in Australia’s bitterly divided art world. Spearheaded by Mary Edwards, one of the most controversial figures in the history of Australian art, the growing protest against the portrait soon spilled over into the political, legal, business and society worlds of the time.
