Celebrate Mother’s Day with a creative morning in nature at beautiful Fernhill Estate. Spend time outdoors with your mum, a loved one or a friend while learning how to create striking botanical prints inspired by the surrounding gardens and landscapes. Guided by artist and educator Gemma McKenzie-Booth, you will be introduced to the fascinating process of cyanotype printing – an early photographic technique that uses sunlight to create vivid blue and white images. After a short introduction to the history and landscape of Fernhill Estate, you will join a gentle guided walk through the gardens to gather leaves, flowers and natural materials to use in your artwork. You will experiment with arranging your collected specimens to design unique compositions on paper and other surfaces. Using sunlight to develop your prints, you will watch as delicate shapes and textures emerge in beautiful shades of blue. By the end of the session, you will take home a collection of handmade prints inspired by your time in nature. Morning tea is included, creating space to slow down, share a conversation and enjoy a relaxed creative experience together. Suitable for adults of all skill levels – no prior experience required.

Step into a slower rhythm this winter and gather around the campfire at Fernhill Estate on Dharug Country for a unique hands-on weaving experience led by Ngiyampaa and Guringai artist, curator, and founder of Nula Weaving, Tarni Eastwood. In this intimate two-hour workshop, Tarni invites participants to explore the art of basket weaving using raffia, guided by cultural knowledge, storytelling, and practical demonstration. Start with an introduction to weaving practices and materials, followed by a relaxed, hands-on session where you’ll learn foundational techniques to create your own woven basket. Set outdoors and centered around a warming campfire, the workshop offers a welcoming space for conversation, reflection, and connection. Tarni’s facilitation supports the ongoing revitalization of traditional practices in a safe and inclusive environment for shared learning. Participants will take home their woven piece, along with additional materials to continue their weaving journey beyond the workshop. Come together this winter for a creative, grounding, and culturally enriching experience around the fire.
