Climb aboard The Lady Mac for a writing workshop on beautiful Lake Macquarie. Eco-writing is a contemporary approach to writing about the environment that blends creativity with ecological awareness. This session will combine a delicious morning tea with a relaxing cruise and immersive and nature-focused writing exercises that explore ideas about the relationships between place, space, culture, and identity against the overarching question of how we can better bear witness to a changing world. MAC Presents a creative collage workshop with Gemma Kirschner, where kids create their own playful animal artworks. Come and get creative with paper in this hands-on collage workshop led by local illustrator Gemma Kirschner. Inspired by Gemma’s playful animal drawings, participants will design and create their own unique animal artwork. Experiment with colour, make fabric-inspired patterns, cut shapes from paper and collage them together to build a character full of personality. Perfect for curious minds and budding artists, this workshop offers a fun introduction to illustration and collage.

Join MAC yapang with writer and broadcaster Scott Bevan as we celebrate the life and art of renowned landscape artist Tom Gleghorn. Tom Gleghorn grew up in Lake Macquarie and was mentored by William Dobell. Tom died in January, aged 100. We celebrate Tom’s life and work, with an exhibition of his artworks held in the visual art collection at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang. Scott, who wrote a biography of William Dobell and co-curated Tom's final survey exhibition, will be in conversation with artist and Tom's close friend Christine Ross, as they remember Tom, talk about his extraordinary art, and how he was inspired throughout his life by the lake.

MAC Presents contemporary artist and academic, Melinda Young in this basketry workshop. Join respected Lake House residency artist, Melinda Young in this 3-hour workshop. Young will introduce participants to the basketry technique of coiling to create small fibre vessels using a simple stitching technique. Participants will be guided through the use of a variety of materials, including raffia, wool and jute to make a small three-dimensional vessel.
