Presented by Mayor Phillemon Mosby, Torres Strait Island Regional Council. Join us to hear from Torres Strait Island Regional Council Mayor, Phillemon Mosby, as he presents JCU's 2026 Eddie Koiki Mabo Lecture. Eddie Koiki Mabo had a strong and long-lasting connection with James Cook University. It was here that he began his journey to challenge land ownership laws on Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Strait. The University provided the environment and context in which discussions challenging terra nullius could be had, including staff and student involvement in the coordination of the original 'Land Rights and the Future of Race Relations' conference that sparked the legal action filed in the High Court of Australia the following year. The recognition of native title by the High Court of Australia in 1992, and the Keating Government's subsequent Native Title Act 1993, were important steps forward in our country's reconciliation with Australia's Indigenous peoples.

For the woman who holds everyone else, and is ready to be held. This is an invitation to slow down. This experience weaves together gentle yin-inspired movement, guided journaling, and somatic breathwork to support emotional release, deeper body connection, and a return to yourself. Together, we’ll move through: Gentle movement to open the body and invite softness and ease, Journaling around the theme of receiving, Somatic breathwork to support release, presence, and embodiment, and A slow, intentional closing to support integration and grounding. This space may be for you if: You’re tired of always being the strong one, You give warmth freely but tighten when it's your turn, You feel deeply and sometimes call it 'too much', You crave rest, presence and space, You feel disconnected from your body or softness.
