Clowning around at Coil! Join Sarah for an introduction to clowning PLUS clown makeup! This workshop is designed to break down the key components of stage clowning into its variable progressions. We will learn about how to create a clown through vulnerability and self awareness of our personality traits; We will learn how to interact with other clowns; and we will learn how to create a clown bit utilizing clown logic and gags. Sarah will lead participants through a series of exercises and learning opportunities to introduce the art of clowning: Brief history of clowning, Improvisational warmup, Getting into character/ finding your clown, Creating space and dimension, Mime, Working together, Clown gags and bits, Clown makeup, The difference between a Whiteface clown, an Auguste/red clown, and a Character clown, Different kinds of noses and their application, Various ways to emphasize details in the face, and how different kinds of makeup tell a different kind of story, Other elements outside of makeup that can solidify your clown design. Everyone will receive a piece of paper and colors to design their own makeup. When everyone has designed their makeup, they will have an opportunity to use makeup and try it on! Photo Ops can occur afterwards.
