In this workshop, participants will learn about 'slow stitching', which emphasizes a meditative, intuitive approach to embroidery. Students of all skill levels are welcome to join in learning a handful of basic embroidery stitches, how to layer fabric with textile 'collage' techniques, and incorporating additional materials such as yarn to add dimension. This workshop will be focused on intuitive creativity and self-expression, and students will benefit from the community of other participants and guidance from the instructor. All materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own fabric, needles, thread, and/or additional materials they’d like to incorporate.
Join us for an afternoon of cyanotype printing with artist, Emily Fussner (Ages 18+). Cyanotype, a ferro-prussiate process, is a photographic process known for its blue color and known as the “original” sun-printing process. In this workshop, students will learn chemistry mixing, coating techniques, and printing tips for making their own cyanotype prints. We will experiment with printing on paper and fabric using found and chosen objects students bring with them.
Join our Textile Collage Workshop (Ages 18+) for a fun and creative hands-on experience! Narratives and stories have been embedded in fiber arts and embroidery for centuries. Explore this rich storytelling art practice with a contemporary twist by creating your own textile collage using basic embroidery stitches in a variety of ways. We will dive into the world of composition, color theory, hand applique, and texture contrast and development. Students will have the opportunity to create 2D textile collages or 3D sculptural assemblage collages.
