This spring, be a part of a community effort to plant more native trees in Cumberland! Come join Wild Potomac on Saturday April 25th to learn about the native trees that have evolved to live in this place, and their value to humans and local ecosystems. Together, we will be planting 15-20 trees along an open stretch of the Gene Mason Sports Complex. We’ll have yellowbud hickory trees, wild cherries, and native shrubs like ninebark. Participants will be taught basic skills for how to plant trees well and take care of them once they go into the ground. This is a great opportunity to get familiar with trees and shrubs that people can actually eat from once they grow to full size! Planting these natives is an investment into a future where people are more connected to nature and in reciprocal relationship with the trees around us. All ages are welcome and you don’t need any previous experience planting trees to join. Instructions, tools and snacks will be provided - you will even get to sample cornbread made from the acorns of local native trees!
