If you’ve always wanted to learn how to sew but don’t know where to begin, this class is designed just for you! Taught by Mary McCannon, the class covers the very beginning, sewing machine, essential tools, and basic techniques. No experience required. Learn the full anatomy of your sewing machine and what each part does. Practice threading, winding and inserting bobbins, and adjusting tension. Explore basic stitches and when to use them. Learn about sewing supplies, cutting tools, and essential notions. Hands-on practice to build control and confidence.
Attract, view, and ID moths with an expert. Get outside and marvel at moths with Butterfly Pavilion's Senior Manager Lepidopterist, Shiran Herschcovich! We'll be attracting and identifying moths using a simple technique called lightsheeting — also known as “mothing” or "sky fishing" - which entails setting up a light and providing a surface for moths and other flying insects to land on.
