KUmZ presents Beneath Our Hawaiian Skies: May Day is Lei Day in Waikiki. Rooted in the legacy of Hawaii's kupuna (elders) and ali?i (royalty), the celebration highlights the enduring importance of lei-making, mele (music), and hula as expressions of identity and community. The program will feature award-winning performers including Na Kumu Hula: Karl Veto Baker and Michael Lanakila Casupang, Ikaika Blackburn, Grammy-nominated, Natalie and Iolani Kamauu, multi-Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners, and Malie Lyman, great-granddaughter of legendary performer Genoa Keawe. Halau I Ka Wekiu, 2025 Merrie Monarch winners, will also be performing. Everyone is encouraged to wear, make, and give a lei. Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the culture of our aina.
