Join Watershed Stewards Program on 4/17 and 4/18 to remove invasive Castor Bean and trash along the Ojai Valley Trail and the Ventura River. This volunteer effort focuses on improving steelhead habitat within the Ventura River watershed. We’ll be working on a newly protected property along the river corridor to restore riparian habitat that is critical for Southern California steelhead and other native species. Volunteers will help remove invasive Castor Bean plants and clear trash from a post-industrial site that has not seen restoration in over a century. These actions directly support the recovery of steelhead habitat by improving water quality, reducing invasive pressure, and restoring native vegetation along the stream corridor. By removing invasive species and debris, we will create space for native plants to thrive, stabilize streambanks, and enhance habitat conditions for steelhead and other wildlife. This work also improves the experience for hikers, runners, and cyclists who use the Ojai Valley Trail, while contributing to the long-term health and resilience of the Ventura River watershed.
