The event is a rare performance of this influential free jazz album in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, $15 for students/low-income individuals, and children under 12 are free. Rasa Lila brings the ancient call-and-response tradition of Kirtan to the East Bay, led by KPFA Music of the World host Joanna Manqueros on harmonium and vocals, with driving tabla rhythms and resonant bass clarinet. Makuru features beloved Bay Area world musicians on bass, guitar, drum set and traditional African musical instruments. Makuru was created by Peter Warren and features Mandjou Kone, a renowned singer from Burkina Faso. She weaves traditional music and dance into her performances.
