Environment Events in Point Leo

Koalas, one of our most beloved species, are facing significant challenges both locally and nationally. Their numbers are dwindling due to threats like disease, dog attacks, road hazards, and habitat loss. Reserves like Point Leo Foreshore Reserve are critical for the local population and there are regular sightings of this wonderful creature in the trees along the shoreline. Join us to meet one of Victoria’s leading Koala experts, Kelly Smith, and learn about conservation efforts in Western Port to restore habitat and boost numbers. This workshop will take you on a guided walk and talk to explore an area of Point Leo Reserve not usually accessed by visitors, where koalas are often seen by rangers and heard by campers. Learn how to be a citizen scientist and contribute to koala research by monitoring tracks and scratchings, collecting scats, and recording sightings.
