The University Laboratory conducts experiments with robots used in advanced manufacturing systems, and rover/drone-based autonomous systems. A featured project is the Shadow Robot, which uses a wearable exoskeleton to control dual robotic arms that duplicate human motions and poses in real time. This development will allow humans to remotely control robotic arms for high-risk operations while remaining in the processing loop. The project is also expanding to space mission options, in which operators can operate robotic arms on the moon simply by moving their arms. The Lab also working with Zoos South Australia to use rovers and drones for enrichment activities for animals such as cheetahs, lions, and African painted dogs. This offers unique opportunities for zoo-housed animals to receive additional stimuli through simulated hunting experiences, similar to what they would encounter in the wild.
