The Royal Society of South Australia is pleased to invite you to its April meeting and scientific presentation. This month we welcome Dr. Bradley Smith as our guest speaker, presenting a talk titled: Dingoes: Beyond the wild dog myth. Dr Smith is a recognised expert on dingo behaviour, human-dingo interactions, and non-lethal management. His research focuses on canine behaviour and cognition, especially dingoes, and on human-animal relationships in both wild and domestic settings. Over the past two decades, Dr Smith has conducted research on dingoes across Australia, working with free-ranging populations in Ngarkat Conservation Park in South Australia, the Great Sandy Desert and Pilbara in Western Australia, the Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory, Myall Lakes National Park in New South Wales, and K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) in Queensland. He has also undertaken cognitive and behavioural studies with captive dingoes in controlled settings. His work has advanced understanding of dingo behaviour, ecology, taxonomy, and the drivers of human-dingo conflict, while informing management and coexistence approaches in collaboration with government, industry, community organisations, and Indigenous ranger groups.
The SAHMRI building is one of Adelaide’s most iconic buildings. Yet, the most amazing thing about SAHMRI is what happens inside. Hundreds of health and medical researchers collaborate to help every person not just live longer but live better. SAHMRI’s North Terrace headquarters has more than 15,000 triangular windows. We want the people we work for – the community – to look in and ask about what we are doing. Get up close to the stunning architecture and hear about the life-changing work we’re doing inside. Join us on a Family Tour during the April, July and September school holidays, designed specifically for parents/grandparents/guardians and school aged children who are science curious. Tours take approximately 1.5 hours.
