Find the best art events and make the most of your time in Speers Point. From art to technology and more, we have the biggest event range and best discovery experience, there's something for everyone.
Kristina Chan dissolves the boundaries between performer and audience in the immersive projection cube at MAP mima. Movement unfolds across the space, with dancers embodying the fluidity, tension, and mystery of the inner self. Alex Brunton’s 360-degree multi-channel film projections envelop the audience in shifting landscapes that blur the line between the external environment and the landscapes of the mind. Complementing this visual and corporeal language is James Hazel’s hypnotic, undulating soundscape, which ebbs and flows alongside the choreography and guides the audience toward states of deep listening, contemplation, and embodied awareness.
Join us for the opening of edge of the world, a collaborative work exploring the landscapes and cultures of Australia and Iceland.
An immersive experience designed for a 360 degree space, Neurodiverse brings together neurodivergent artists from across regional NSW.
Enjoy a creative morning of art-making for all ages and abilities at MAP mima. Guided by an experienced art educator, explore the exhibition and create art inspired by what you see. A perfect family morning on selected Sundays throughout 2026!
Join us for an exhibition celebrating the achievements of women who have contributed to the Hunter Newcastle region. The aim is to raise publicity for the ZCHN and show appreciation of local women.
MAP mima presents a newly created work by collaborative artists Paul Mosig and Rachel Peachey. Known for their cinematic and immersive practice, they craft experiences that blur the boundaries between film, installation, and expanded moving image. The work transforms the 360-degree Cube into a shifting environment of sound and vision.
For the Autumn 2026 Commission, MAP mima presents a newly created work by collaborative artists Paul Mosig and Rachel Peachey. Known for their cinematic and immersive practice, Paul Mosig and Rachel Peachey craft experiences that blur the boundaries between film, installation, and expanded moving image. Their commission for MAP mima transforms the 360-degree Cube into a shifting environment of sound and vision, enveloping audiences in layered imagery and atmospheric soundscapes. Drawing on their interest in the everyday, the natural world, and the intersections of human experience with technology, the work invites viewers into a world that feels both intimate and expansive. For Peachey & Mosig, this ritual sits as a point of resonance, a reminder of older ways of acknowledging loss, care, and interdependence beyond the human.
Join us for the opening of a captivating collection of video works by Pacific Islander artists. Together, these works trace a rich network of stories - of place, memory, lineage, and belonging. They speak in distinct voices, each grounded deeply in the Pacific while simultaneously reaching outward, expanding the contours of contemporary dialogue.
An interactive, hands-on creative workshop using projected animations and visual stimuli to explore the fundamental building blocks of art. The workshop aims to build creative confidence, introduce new artistic skills, and encourage experimentation and embodied learning. By engaging directly with the space and visual environment of MAP mima, participants are supported to connect with contemporary art processes in an accessible and inspiring way. The workshop is structured in two parts. The first half focuses on guided group activities, with the artist demonstrating the use of different mediums and approaches to build foundational artistic skills and confidence. In the second half, participants are invited to find their own space within MAP mima to create an individual artwork, with ongoing one-on-one guidance and support provided throughout.
Join us for the opening of the ANAT + MAP mima residency exhibition, featuring a pairing of an artist and scientist.
