How do we turn the Farm’s green waste into microbial gold? Please join us for this free, practical and hands-on workshop on how to make hot compost using our mini-Indore method. It’s a pretty simple recipe that allows us to: process all our end-of-growing-season organic matter (plus weeds) join the circular economy and regenerate our soil. Plus we’ll also be demonstrating microbiological brewing and making biochar.

Wondering what's the best thing to do with your kitchen scraps? Tried composting but it was too [insert your own compost story here]? What's the big deal about compost anyway? Join Frank Jones of Praxis Farms for an overview of how composting works, why gardeners love compost and why it's so good for the planet. Plus an overview of various composting methods suited to the home-scale garden such as barrel bins, bays and bokashi. With time for troubleshooting and a relaxed Q and A.

Join us at our autumn planting day and help extend our new microforest at the Canberra City Farm. Last spring we planted 480 native plants, now established and putting on a burst of growth after the recent rain. The work continues with more planting and the sowing of thousands of seeds for a wildflower meadow. You will be rewarded with convivial conversation, fun outdoor activity and a home-made wood-fired pizza afterwards. Looking at the big picture, you’ll be taking local positive action to address climate challenges. The microforest project demonstrates climate resilient landscaping with berms, mounds, swales, a pond, and a rainwater tank and will improve biodiversity and provide shade and habitat for the lovely critters who hang out at the Farm. Thanks to funding by a Nature in the City: Cooling Your Suburb, ACT Government Grant.

Reimagining our world, with nature at its centre. Our society, economy, food systems, business and industry, and health and wellbeing are all intrinsically connected to nature. So why wouldn’t we protect this most important, fundamental natural boon that safeguards our future? Caring for our natural environment doesn’t have to come at the cost of growth, development, innovation or success. Imagine a world that considers nature protection in policy making, where nature is considered as important as profits and we value the intrinsic right of species to thrive independently of humans. Here’s the kicker, this world doesn’t have to live in the imagination. This vision can become a reality with collective intelligence, cross-sector collaboration and creating a united force for nature.
